It has been over a year since Apple debuted the AirTag item tracker for its users. There have been a few controversies related to the device due to its misuse in certain cases but nevertheless, it has proved to be a huge success. Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known research analyst, has tweeted that there is a possibility that we may see a second-gen AirTag in the future.
Kuo says there has been a gradual increase in AirTag's shipments since its release. He adds that shipping estimates for 2021 were 20 million and have grown to 35 million for 2022. This is undoubtedly a significant bump in shipment figures and Kuo says if it will continue to grow the same way, Apple may eventually come with the AirTag 2.
AirTag, which has not received much attention, has gradually grown in shipments since its release. Shipment estimations of AirTag reach about 20 mn & 35 mn units in 2021 & 2022, respectively. If AirTag shipments continue to grow, I believe Apple will develop the 2nd generation.— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) June 19, 2022
There are no words on what changes we might be seeing with the AirTag successor. It is quite possible that we may see a different product design. Apple may even introduce a few extra features to make them more useful. We will have to wait and see to know more details about the next-gen model.
If we talk about the current-gen AirTag, Apple has already released a number of software updates to make it even better. It is now capable of making sound faster if it is away from the original owner. There is also an Android app for users that shows details about an AirTag that is not theirs.
