Samsung's affordable foldables may cost under $800, release in 2024

30 June 2022 1

Samsung is long rumored to be considering the idea of releasing affordable foldable phones. All of its foldable including the latest Galaxy Z Fold 3 have been quite expensive so far. Even the relatively cheaper Galaxy Z Flip 3 costs $999 which is not exactly cheap for most buyers. We now have a fresh report coming from South Korea that offers a few more details about the company's plans.

The report claims Samsung is looking at KRW 1 million (about $770) as the starting price for its cheaper foldable. This will undoubtedly be a significant price gap when compared to paying close to $1,000. It adds that these models will likely be released under the Galaxy A series. This will allow the Galaxy Z series to cater to premium foldable models.

It is speculated that only "core features" will be made available through the mid-range and cheaper foldable. All "advanced features" will continue to be exclusive to the premium offering. The report does not mention what exactly qualifies as "core features" but it seems like none of the latest and best features will make their way to cheaper models.

Lastly, it concludes by mentioning that we will see affordable foldables sometime during 2024. This is in line with a previous report that speculated a 2024-2025 timeline for these new models. It means we are at least two years away from seeing South Korean tech giant announce foldables that are easier on the pocket.
