Xiaomi has launched its newest Android flagship lineup featuring three models Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro, and Xiaomi 12S Ultra in China. It is the first smartphone launch from the company in collaboration with Leica. The partnership between the two parties was announced last month and is aimed at improving the camera performance.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the show stopper here, not just in terms of its looks but also in terms of what it is capable of. It boasts a 1-inch Sony IMX989 camera sensor which is one of the biggest you will find on a smartphone. It is 50-megapixel in resolution and has a 1.6-micron pixel size. It supports four-in-one pixel binning that results in still images equivalent to a 12.5-megapixel sensor.
The phone sports a 6.73-inch AMOLED display with 2300 x 1440 pixels resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. There is a 240Hz touch sampling rate, 1500 nits of peak brightness, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and DCI-P3 color gamut support. Under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB onboard storage. The camera setup includes a 48-megapixel periscopic sensor and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor along with the 50-megapixel primary sensor.
There is a 32-megapixel front camera housed inside the punch-hole. The whole package is powered by a 4,860mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. It also supports 10W reverse wireless charging. The phone will boot MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box. There is an in-display fingerprint scanner that also works as a heart rate monitor.
