Microsoft has announced that it will stop offering monthly Xbox 360 games via the Games with Gold offer starting October. It has started sending emails to subscribers to alert them about the significant change. The reason behind the decision is that the company has reached its limit of bringing Xbox 360 games to the catalog.
The email reveals that Xbox 360 games will not be a part of Games with Gold from October 1st, 2022. It is applicable to both Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. The good thing is that any Xbox 360 title that you have added to your library will continue to be available even after the deadline. It means if there is any title that you would like to play, you better add that to your library before October arrives.
No other Game with Gold benefits has been affected by the change. It means members will continue to receive Xbox One titles and exclusive savings on other games. It is important that all Xbox 360 games in your library will not be removed even if you decide to cancel the membership later. All you will need to do is to re-subscribe and start playing your favorite vintage titles.
Here is the official explanation from Microsoft:
"We have reached the limit of our ability to bring Xbox 360 games to the catalog; however, Games with Gold will continue to include exciting Xbox One titles and exclusive savings each month. This will not impact any Xbox 360 games that you downloaded before October 2022. Any Xbox 360 titles that you redeem via Games with Gold before that time are yours to keep on your Xbox account, regardless of whether you continue your subscription."
As of now, all members receive two Xbox One titles and two Xbox 360 titles for free each month. It is unknown whether Microsoft will replace the two Xbox 360 titles with Xbox One or it will simply restrict free games to just Xbox One. We will keep you posted if more details will emerge in the future.
