Apple to make latest chips exclusive to high-end iPhone models

06 July 2022 2

Among all the iPhone 14 rumors we have heard so far, the most interesting one is that Apple will limit the latest A16 Bionic chip to the Pro models. It says that non-Pro iPhone 14 models will launch with the already available A15 Bionic chipset. The same claim has now been corroborated by Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known market research analyst.

Kuo says only iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will feature the new A16 processor. It will result in a significant shipment boost for the two models in the year's second half. The two models will account for up to 60% of all shipments as compared to up to 50% the previous year. This structural change will further benefit high-end component suppliers like Sony, Largan, Alps, and LG Innotek.

However, he goes on to add that this particular change is not a one-time thing and will be followed for foreseeable future. It means Apple will continue restricting new processors to high-end iPhone models. All entry-level and mid-range iPhone models will use processors from the previous generation. The idea behind the move seems to be to make buyers go for high-end models which will eventually generate even more revenue for the company.

We are getting close to the iPhone 14 series launch which should take place in September 2022. It means we are only a couple of months away unless Apple decides to push it back. This is something that has happened in the past but only when there is a significant reason to do so. Nevertheless, we will keep you posted as and when more details will emerge.
