WhatsApp Status updates are a good way for sharing things with your contacts that get deleted automatically after 24 hours. It supports sharing updates in video, image, text, and GIF formats. The company is now reported to be testing the ability to share voice notes as status updates. This new report is coming from WABetaInfo which has a reliable track record in spotting under-development features of the app.
The new voice message WhatsApp status update feature has been spotted with the beta version 22.214.171.124 available for Android users. The report accompanies a screenshot that gives an idea of how the feature works at the moment. There is a new microphone icon at the bottom when you will access the status tab. It is alongside the existing camera and pencil icons meant for adding photo/video and text statuses.
Tapping the microphone icon will let users record their voices saying whatever they want to share with others. It can then be posted to status the same way as any other status update. The report says all voice note status updates will be protected with end-to-end encryption. They will also follow the status privacy setting chosen by you. It means if you want to share voice note status with only a few select users, you will be able to do so.
The feature is currently limited to WhatsApp beta testers on Android. It should make its way to iOS beta testers soon and eventually to everyone around the world. It is hard to say when these changes will come into effect but we will keep you updated.
