Instagram has been testing Subscriptions with select creators in the United States since the beginning of the year. These allow creators to earn revenue by providing exclusive content to paying subscribers. It included subscriber-only live streams, stories, and badges to get started with. The team has now announced a bunch of new features that creators will be able to offer.
The first new feature is Subscriber Chat where creators can chat with up to 30 subscribers at the same time. These chats will be powered by Messenger and work the same way as other group chats on Instagram. A creator can create a Subscriber Chat either through the inbox or via the stories. There is a new Join Chat sticker for stories that subscribers can tap to become a part of the chat. It can be added to both general and subscriber-only stories. These chats will get deleted automatically after 24 hours which is a good thing for creators with a large following.
Instagram is further adding support for subscriber-only Posts and Reels. This is an expansion of the feature which was previously limited to stories. These posts and Reels will be visible only to those followers who are also paying subscribers. It will give them access to permanently available content instead of being limited to watching content that gets deleted after 24 hours.
Lastly, Instagram is adding a new Exclusive tab to the profile of creators. This tab will be dedicated to all the subscriber-only content so that it is easier for subscribers to access any content anytime. All of these changes have started to rollout and should become available for creators anytime soon.
