Sony announces PlayStation Stars loyalty program to reward gamers

15 July 2022 1

Sony has announced a new PlayStation Stars loyalty program to reward gamers of the platform. Gamers will be able to collect loyalty points and digital collectibles by playing their favorite games. The good thing is that it will be a free-to-join program when it will launch later this year.

PlayStation Stars program rewards can be collected by completing a variety of campaigns and activities. Some campaigns will require players to win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even be the first player to platinum a blockbuster title in their local time zone. There will also be a Monthly Check-in campaign where a user will simply need to play a game to receive a reward.

If we talk about loyalty points, these can be redeemed for PSN wallet funds and select PlayStation Store products. The announcement does not clarify exactly what kind of products but we will have to wait until the public release. There will also be digital collectibles but these will not be NFTs or powered by blockchain. These will be "digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as cherished devices that tap into Sony’s history of innovation".

Sony has not said exactly when we can expect PlayStation Stars to become available for users. It will likely happen within this year but a specific date has not been revealed yet. We will keep you posted as and when these details will become public.
