Instagram has confirmed that all videos which are less than 15 minutes long will be shared as Reels. This is in line with a previous report that surfaced earlier this month. The change will be applicable to all videos that will be posted once it comes into effect. It has further announced a bunch of new features to "make it more fun and easy to collaborate, create and share reels".
Remix functionality on Instagram is getting better with the introduction of three new features. The first one is that it will now be possible to Remix public photos as well. There are three new layouts called green screen, horizontal/vertical split-screen, and picture-in-picture reaction view. Users can also add their clip to the original so that it gets played in a sequence.
Instagram has added Reels templates for creators to get started. These templates will have video and audio placeholders which can be replaced by personal video and audio. It is meant to give Reel inspiration to creators. Another new feature is Dual where users can choose to record using both front and rear cameras simultaneously.
As for videos being considered Reels, Instagram says videos under 90 seconds in length may even be recommended to other users on the app. This will not be applicable to users with private accounts whose videos will be shown only to their approved followers. Instagram is further consolidating videos and Reels tabs into one single tab.
