OnePlus 10T confirmed to ditch Alert Slider, Hasselblad branding

25 July 2022 2

OnePlus is preparing for the OnePlus 10T launch which is just a week over away. As we wait for the launch day to arrive, the company has continued with its tradition of revealing a few details about the upcoming product. It has shared official OnePlus 10T product renders with The Verge and has also talked about a couple of important things about the device.

The OnePlus 10T renders show that it will have a design largely similar to the OnePlus 10 Pro. However, there are two differences that are hard to ignore. The first one is that the OnePlus 10T does not have the Alert Slider. This is something that has been present on OnePlus phones since the early days and has become their signature style. It will be the first OnePlus flagship that will not arrive with the Alert Slider, a button dedicated to switching between vibration, mute, and full volume profiles.

The official explanation for the decision is that they needed enough space for offering "high wattage charging, a large battery capacity, and better antenna signal.” Hope Liu, the chief designer at OnePlus, says they have added two charging pumps inside the phone to reach the charging speeds that it will deliver. It is not confirmed but rumors suggest the OnePlus 10T will have 150W fast charging as compared to 80W on the OnePlus 10 Pro.

The flagship further has a new antenna system featuring a total of 15 separate antennas. It is claimed to deliver a strengthened signal quality even when holding the phone horizontally. Liu has added that an Alert Slider takes up to 30 mm² of space inside the phone which is quite significant in the context of other components. He says if they had decided to keep the slider, it would have resulted in the phone getting thicker.

The second major difference is that the OnePlus 10T does not have Hasselblad branding on the back panel. It means its camera performance will not be fine-tuned by the company. The reason for the same is given that OnePlus "wanted to offer an ultimate performance flagship smartphone at the device’s chosen price point". This suggests the phone would have become more expensive than the currently decided price.

The OnePlus 10T is set to get official on August 3rd at an event that will also be streamed live. We know that the phone will have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. We should hear more official details from the company in the coming days but even if we do not, the launch event is barely days away.
