Twitter has announced that it is increasing pricing for the Blue subscription. The paid plan was released at $2.99 per month last year but will now cost $4.99 per month. This is a significant 66% price bump for the service which is already applicable for all the new subscribers. All existing paid members will not be affected by the increase until October 2022.
The company has started sending emails to users alerting them about the change. The email makes it clear that new pricing is currently applicable only to new subscribers. All early adopters will continue to pay the same $2.99 per month for the next couple of months. Once the window is over, they will be moved to the new pricing. They will also be notified once more which will happen 30 days before the change.

It is unknown why Twitter chose to increase the Blue pricing. However, it does say that the price bump will help it continue to build some of the new features that users have been asking for. It is hard to say how many of the existing users will continue using Blue once they will be asked to pay more. The new pricing will be 6.99 AUD in Australia, 6.49 CAD in Canada, and 6.49 NZD in New Zealand as compared to 4.49 AUD, 3.49 CAD, and 4.49 NZD respectively.
For the uninitiated, Twitter Blue is a paid subscription that provides users with an ad-free experience along with a bunch of new and exclusive features. These features include bookmark folders, reader mode, and undo tweets among others. It will also add the ability to edit tweets but an exact release timeline for the same is unknown.
