Logitech has announced that it is partnering with Tencent Games for developing a dedicated handheld cloud gaming device. It will release later this year and will be part of the Logitech G family of devices. The current announcement is more like a teaser as it does not reveal anything in detail about what it looks like or how much it would cost.
The device is currently referred to as the Logitech G Gaming Handheld. It is hard to say whether this will continue to be the name once it gets official. It is confirmed to support multiple cloud game streaming services including Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce Now. The company is working with both Microsoft and NVIDIA for striking a deal to bring those services to the device.
The blog post reveals that Logitech will take care of the hardware side of things and Tencent Games will be responsible for the software side of things. This is not surprising as Logitech is already well-known for making superior PC and gaming accessories and peripherals. Its G-series devices are quite popular among gamers, even professional ones.
Ujesh Desai, General Manager of Logitech G said,
“As one of the leading global platforms for game development, publishing and operations, Tencent Games has been at the forefront of innovation and it’s why we partnered with them. As someone that grew up playing video games, the idea of being able to stream and play AAA games almost anywhere is super exciting, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on.”
This is pretty much what we know about the upcoming Logitech handheld gaming device. Since the launch is set for later this year, we should hear more details as the time will pass. There is also a possibility we may get to see some leaks and reports. Nevertheless, we will keep you posted about all the developments.
