It was during the last November when Netflix introduced games to its service called Netflix Games. It started off with five titles but has since expanded the catalog to 24 and has no plans to stop. There are plans to double the number by the end of the year but as per a new CNBC report, there is actually no one playing those games.
The report cites data shared by Apptopia to reveal that Netflix Games have only 1.7 million daily users. This accounts for just 1% of the total 221 million subscribers the streaming platform has. If we talk about the number of downloads, that figure has reached only a little over 23 million. There is no doubt that the company is struggling to attract users to play its games.
It is important to note that while Netflix Games can be played from within the app, they need to be downloaded separately. This is to ensure that users have only those games that they are interested in. The exact reason behind such low figures is unknown but it could be due to a large number of users being unaware of the presence of these games.
Netflix continues to be committed to making games an integral part of the streaming service. This is because it wants users to have a reason to stay on the platform when they do not have something to watch. The company reported losing about 200,000 during the first quarter which was its first subscriber decline in the last decade. The number has grown to around a million which is what troubling the company's top executives. We will have to wait and see what strategies Netflix will work on to ensure that more and more users play those games.
