Sony Xperia 5 IV is a compact phone with premium specs, camera features

01 September 2022 2

Sony has launched the Xperia 5 IV as its newest compact Android smartphone. It is a direct successor to last year's Xperia 5 III and builds upon what it delivered. The main highlight continues to be the camera department but the team has ditched the variable telephoto lens from last year. It is targeting creators, gamers, and music/video enthusiasts with the latest release.

The Xperia 5 IV sports a 6.1-inch Full HD+ (2520 x 1080 pixels) OLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The panel is claimed to be 50% brighter than its predecessor. Under the hood, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM. There is a single 128GB storage option with microSD card support.

On the back, the phone has triple cameras and each of them is a 12-megapixel sensor. The first one is a 16mm ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture followed by a 24mm wide-angle lens with f/1.7 aperture. The last one is a 60mm telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture. All three cameras support 4K HDR video recording and super slow-mo recording at 120fps. The front camera is a 12-megapixel sensor that also supports 4K HDR.

There is a 5,000mAh battery to keep the lights on and is supported by 30W fast charging. The phone also offers wireless fast charging support. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, Hi-Res audio, 5G connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC. The phone will boot Android 12 out of the box.

Sony has priced the Xperia 5 IV at $999 for the sole 8GB/128GB configuration. It will be available in Green, Black, and Ecru White color options starting mid-September.
