Samsung has announced OneUI 4.1.1 based on Android 12L and OneUI Watch 3.5 for previous generation foldable and smartwatches respectively. Both these new software experiences debuted with the launch of Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy Watch 5 series last week. The update brings many new features to older devices.
The blog post reveals Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be the first ones to receive OneUI 4.1.1 Android 12L update. The rollout will begin September 5th around the globe. It will then expand to Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Fold, and Galaxy Z Fold. As for OneUI Watch 4.5 update, it will become available for Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, Galaxy Watch 3, and Galaxy Watch Active 2.
If we talk about what are the new features coming to these features, here is a quick overview. Taskbar is a new Galaxy foldable feature that makes it easier to switch across multiple apps. It essentially provides a desktop-like user experience where you see a bunch of apps in the taskbar at the bottom when using the device unfolded.
Users can now drag an app from the taskbar to the edge and enter split-view mode. The app can be dragged to the center to enter the pop-up view mode. Both of these are quick ways to multi-task when you want to work on a couple of apps simultaneously. App pairs can also be added to the taskbar for quick access.
There is a feature called Dual Preview that will show the preview of the photo on both the Main display and Cover display. This will allow both the photographer and the subject to check what the shot looks like. The Galaxy Z Flip users will now be able to see the preview and take photos in their true ratio on the Cover Screen. They can even click portrait mode shots at the same time.
The Cover Screen user experience has been improved and made more functional. Its users now have better camera controls on the Cover Display along with the ability to make calls to favorite contacts, dial back missed calls, and reply to texts via voice-to-text and emojis. The team has also added Quick Settings toggle for quickly accessing toggles for WiFi, Bluetooth, flashlight, and airplane mode.
As for Galaxy Watch users, Samsung has added a favorite watch list that lets users save watch faces and access them quickly. The team has introduced QWERTY keyboard support in addition to voice recognition and handwriting. The team has expanded the Samsung Health Monitor app's blood pressure and ECG features to previous models.
