Dynamic Island is the headline feature of the iPhone 14 series, even though it is exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. This is not surprising as Apple tends to keep new features limited to Pro models for some time and then bring them to non-Pro models eventually. However, a new leak reveals it will not take long for Dynamic Island to expand to the remaining models.
Ross Young, a renowned supply chain analyst, has tweeted that Apple is likely to expand Dynamic Island to all iPhone models with the iPhone 15 series launch. It means all four iPhone models next year will come with the new notch replacement. It is a feature that makes the new punch-hole and pill-shaped cutout for the front camera and Face ID sensors appear as a single pill shape.
Yes, Dynamic Island expected on standard models on the 15. Still not expecting 120Hz/LTPO on standard models as supply chain can’t support it.— Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) September 18, 2022
The best part is that it is not just an aesthetic solution but it is also functional. It can be used for showing alerts related to various activities and apps. For example, it shows an alert for incoming calls, music playback, timer, and stopwatch. You do not have to open a particular app to check the current status. It will further support Live Activities on third-party apps with iOS 16.1 release.
While the expansion is good news, Young says Apple will continue to keep the 120Hz ProMotion LTPO display limited to the Pro models. I mean we will have another year of standard iPhone models released with 60Hz panels. He says this is because the supply chain cannot support the demand yet. We will have to wait to see for how long standard iPhone users will have to wait for high refresh rate.
