Amazon debuts Kindle Scribe, new Echo Dot, Fire TV Cube, Pro remote

29 September 2022 1

Amazon's annual Devices & Service event took place yesterday and as expected, the company had a lot of announcements to make. It took wraps off a bunch of new hardware products as well as software features and services.

Kindle Scribe

The Kindle Scribe sports a 10.2-inch Paperwhite glare-free display with 300ppi pixel density. It is the company's first e-reader that also supports writing. Yes, you read that right. You can write or doodle anything on this Kindle which also explains why it is named Scribe. It comes with a stylus pen that never needs to be charged.

There are two stylus variants: Basic and Premium. Both pens are said to feel natural in hand and can connect to the Kindle magnetically. You can choose from various tools like line widths, eraser, and undo. When it comes to the Premium stylus, you will get an eraser on the top and a customizable shortcut button. Amazon has priced the Kindle Scribe with the Basic stylus at $339. If you want to get the Premium stylus, you will need to pay $30 more.

Fire TV Cube

The new Fire TV Cube comes loaded with a bunch of improvements. It has fabrics around the side which is the only major change in terms of visual appearance. Under the hood, it comes with a new processor which is claimed to deliver 20% faster performance than the previous generation. It has WiFi 6E support for better and faster connectivity.

For the first time, it comes with both HDMI In and HDMI Out ports. This will allow you to plug a cable box into the Fire TV Cube and surf channels via Alexa voice commands. It is priced at $139.99 with pre-orders already open.

Echo Dot 5

The fifth-generation Echo Dot smart speaker comes with a custom full-range driver. It is claimed to deliver better sound by enabling improved bass and clearer vocals. There is a new AZ2 Neural Edge processor along with sensors. It has a new feature where it can automatically turn on the fan after sensing that the temperature is too warm.

As for Echo Dot with Clock, it has a high-density dot display that now shows details beyond time. It can now be used to see the weather, calendar events, song information, and more. It is priced at $60 and if you want the one without the clock, it will cost you slightly cheaper at $50.

Alexa Voice Remote Pro

Amazon has debuted a new stand-alone remote control named Alexa Voice Remote Pro. It is a backlit remote which should make it more convenient to use in a dark room. It has two programmable buttons that can be assigned to any streaming service of the user's choice. These can also be used as shortcuts for Alexa routines or phrases that you happen to use quite often. If you end up losing it in the room, you can use the voice command where is the remote to find it.

The remote control will cost you $34.99 and will be available starting in November.
