Ever since TikTok became a viral phenomenon, its vertically scrolling video browsing experience has been copied by a number of applications. The newest one to jump on the bandwagon is none other than Twitter. It has announced a new test where users will be able to browse videos on Twitter in the same way they do on TikTok.
Twitter says playing a video will now expand the media player to the full screen. It will then enter the discovery mode where you can scroll up and down to watch other videos on the platform. This is exactly what TikTok does when you are watching a video in its application. It is said users will get to see "more engaging video content" through the new experience.
The idea is to keep users engaged on the app for a long time with a never-ending loop of videos. Twitter says you will need to go back to the original tweet and tap the back arrow in the top left corner to exit the viewer. This new video viewing experience will first arrive for iOS users using Twitter in English.
Twitter is further adding a video carousel to the Explore tab. It is meant to help users discover new videos in addition to tweets and discussions happening on the platform. A user only needs to open the Explore tab and they will be able to see the video carousel. It is currently available for select Twitter users in the English language on Android and iOS.
