It has been over a year since Spotify announced its plans for HiFi audio streaming. It was supposed to release by the end of 2021 but as things stand, it has reportedly been delayed indefinitely and no one knows what exactly happened. Now, it seems like Spotify is preparing to launch HiFi streaming anytime soon.
A Reddit user has shared a screenshot on the platform showing a Spotify survey. He says the survey was presented to him when he canceled his Spotify Premium subscription to move to Apple Music. The survey asked whether he would switch to a new subscription tier called Spotify Platinum in the next 30 days. This new tier is priced at $19.99 per month and offers various benefits including HiFi streaming.
The other benefits listed under Platinum membership are Studio Sound, Headphone Tuner, Audio Insights, Library Pro, Playlist Pro, and Limited ad-supported Spotify Podcasts. The exact functionality of each of these benefits is unknown but seems like users will get access to an audio tuner, insights into their listening habits, playlists with advanced features, superior sound quality, and fewer ads while listening to podcasts.
There is no doubt that the Platinum tier has a multiple benefits but it is also priced a lot more expensive than the competition. It is currently listed for $19.99 per month but we will have to wait until the official announcement. Apple Music already offers HiFi music streaming without any extra charges. It will be interesting to see how willing users will be to pay for the Platinum tier.
