It is not a hidden secret that Netflix does not appreciate account sharing among people who do not live under the same roof. This is the reason it has been working on ways to convert those users into independent paying subscribers. In the same direction, it has announced a new feature called Profile Transfer after months of testing.
Profile Transfer will allow users to move out of the main account they are using without losing any of their data. It will help them keep their personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings. They will be able to import this whole data to their new accounts when they will decide to sign up.
The feature can be used by clicking the profile icon in the top right corner while using Netflix on a PC. Choose Profile Transfer from the list of options to proceed. It will then ask you to get a new membership account by entering your email address and choosing a password. It will then move all the saved data to your new profile so that you can resume from where you left off.
Netflix recently also announced an ad-supported tier called Basic with Ads. It will become available starting next month and will cost $6.99 per month. It will have all the benefits of the Basic plan but without offline downloads. Users will also have to see 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour where each ad will last for 15 or 30 seconds. These ads will be shown before and during the TV show or movie that you are watching. The new plan is aimed at users who want to watch Netflix but do not wish to pay for any of the other more expensive tiers.
