YouTube has announced a bunch of changes coming to the world's biggest video-sharing platform. These changes are spread across devices including smartphones, desktops, and smart TVs. The majority of the changes are related to the visual appearance and a few are related to improving the user functionality.
The update brings ambient mode to YouTube on smartphone apps and the website. It will be available for all users using dark mode. The mode uses dynamic color sampling where the background color of the app will change to match the video playing. It is meant to "draw users right into the content". The team has further made the dark mode even darker so that colors pop more on whatever device you are using to watch videos.
These visual changes are also coming to video playlists on YouTube. The announcement says the app will now show more details about each playlist. This is meant to make it easier for users to know what to expect from a particular playlist and whether they should be watching it.
YouTube video player is also getting a few changes that will improve the video-watching experience. The biggest change is that the Subscribe button is not Red anymore. It has been changed to White which is said to be easier to find and more accessible. The links in the description and buttons for like, share, and download have also been revamped.
Pinch to zoom is now available for all users on Android and iOS. You can now zoom in and out of the video and it will stay the same way. There is precise seeking so that you can easily move forward or rewind a video with the help of thumbnail previews. This will allow you to jump to a perfect moment with just a tap.
