Amazon India has officially expanded Prime Video Mobile Edition to everyone. It is a mobile-focused subscription tier from the popular streaming service. It is similar to Netflix's own mobile-only subscription plan available in various countries. It is the cheapest subscription tier from Amazon and is priced at only INR 599 (about $7.2) per year.
Prime Video Mobile Edition debuted early last year but was available through a collaboration with Airtel carrier. It has now been made available for everyone regardless of what carrier they are on. The plan will offer access to the whole Prime Video catalog including Originals and live sports. However, there are certain limitations considering how inexpensive the plan is.
The first major limitation is this new plan will let users stream TV shows and movies only on mobile devices. The streaming resolution will be capped at Standard Definition (SD) i.e. 480p. You can use the plan only on one device at a time. The good thing is offline download support is here and has not been made exclusive to the main subscription tier.
Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President of Prime Video India said,
"Guided by our mission of making high-quality entertainment even more accessible across the country, we are excited to launch Prime Video Mobile Edition’s annual plan. This worldwide-first innovation saw an incredible response from Indian consumers when we launched via a telecom association last year, and building on that success we are extending its access, with it now being made available directly for subscription through Prime Video’s app and website.“
