After a week of confusion and different opinions, Elon Musk-owned Twitter has finally released the new revamped Twitter Blue subscription with the verified tick on iOS. It is unknown when it will come to Android but if you have an iPhone or iPad, you can now pay $7.99 monthly to get all the Blue features and the Blue tick.
The revamped Blue subscription has features like priorities in replies/mentions/search, 50% fewer ads, the ability to post longer videos, and early access to select new features. These are currently labeled as "Coming Soon" which means you will not have them right after subscribing. However, the verified Blue tick will appear next to your account as soon as you become a Blue user. However, it does not work for accounts that were created on or after November 9th, 2022.
Twitter is not asking for any kind of ID verification to authenticate your account. The only change is whenever someone will tap on your verified mark, it will show that you paid for it. Prior to the subscription, it used to show account has been verified because it is notable in government, news, entertainment, or another designated category. But unless you tap on the tick, there is no way to tell if someone paid for it or is actually a notable personality.
welcome to the new blue tick Twitter. There are now two blue ticks, so you can tell who’s paying $8 or not 🙃 pic.twitter.com/ALzMSRrztq— Tom Warren (@tomwarren) November 9, 2022
The new Twitter Blue subscription is currently live in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. The team is working on expanding it to more countries. As for the $7.99 per month pricing, it is said to be an introductory offer with no words on what would be the final price. Twitter has already confirmed that it will be experimenting with a lot of features in the future to differentiate between influential personalities and Blue subscribers.
