Motorola appears to be planning to kick off its 2023 product catalog with the launch of a budget smartphone. Evan Blass (@evleaks), a reliable tipster, has collaborated with the publication Gadget Gang to share relevant details. The phone is internally codenamed Penang which seems to be inspired by the Malaysian state Penang.
Blass has even shared a render of the phone that gives an idea about the design. The alleged Motorola Penang can be seen with a punch-hole display with minimal side bezels. The volume rocker and power button are on the right side. On the back, it has a dual camera setup with LED flash. You also have the Motorola logo on the back panel which does not appear to be centered.
The report claims it is a 5G smartphone with model number XT-2313. It will be sold via Cricket, Dish, and Tracfone carriers in North America. It will be available in two configurations: 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM with 128GB storage. This is the only thing known about the phone's specification sheet. The leaked render shows the phone in Basalt Blue color but it will also be available in Opal Silver color.
It is added Motorola has multiple phones lined up for release with different variations of the Penang codename. Some of these are Penang5G, Penang4G, and Penang+. However, it is not necessary that all of these will be released under the same lineup. These could be split across Moto E and Moto G series. This is pretty much what is known about Motorola's plans for budget smartphones next year.
