Twitter is planning to re-launch account verification as early as next Friday. The announcement was made by Elon Musk via his official Twitter account. It means users can start getting verified ticks by subscribing to the Blue membership starting December 2nd. This is considering the team does not come across any further issues that cause delays.
Musk has revealed that the new verification system will include an authentication process. He says all accounts will get authenticated manually before the verified tick becomes active. He described it as a "painful, but necessary" process. There will be three different verified color ticks: Gold, Grey, and Blue meant for companies, government entities, and individuals respectively.
The usage of different colors is meant to help users recognize what account belongs to what category. It should be noted that the Blue tick will appear the same for both actually notable accounts and the ones who paid $8 to get it. However, individuals who are linked with a particular organization and the latter vouches for them, then they have an additional tiny logo too.
Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 25, 2022
Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.
Painful, but necessary.
Musk added that all details related to the new verification system and requirements will be shared next week. It is good to see him finally recognizing that even if you want to give the Blue tick to everyone, it is necessary to authenticate the identity. We will keep you updated as more details will emerge officially.
