WhatsApp has started rolling out the new Message Yourself feature to Android and iOS users. The feature is meant to offer users a direct and more convenient way of sending messages to themselves. It is useful in scenarios when you have to save a to-do list, reminders, notes, or anything that is meant for personal use.
The Message Yourself feature will appear as your name at the top of the contacts list. It can be accessed by using the create a new chat option. It should also appear in the list of contacts while forwarding a message. You can then tap on the name to send a particular message to yourself. All messages sent to you by yourself will appear as a new chat accessible only to you.
Prior to the rollout, WhatsApp users were relying on workarounds to send messages to themselves. One such workaround was to create a new group chat and then remove all participants except yourself. The new feature will eliminate the need for such extra steps and will let anyone send messages to themselves straightaway. It was under beta testing for some time and is now ready for prime time.
The rollout is currently underway for both Android and iOS users worldwide. It is a gradual release and is expected to reach everyone in the coming weeks. WhatsApp recently released Communities feature for everyone. It allows users to manage multiple groups related to a particular theme from a single place. It further increased the limit of members in a group chat to 1024 and the number of group video call participants to 32.
