UPDATE (December 16th, 2022):
Nothing OS 1.5 beta based on Android 13 has been released for beta testers. This gives select users an opportunity to try out the new major Android version upgrade before others. They will be expected to provide feedback so that the team improve the software and make it ready for a wider release. The new version also brings a new Weather app with a custom Nothing UI.

Team Nothing is speeding up the process of rolling out Android 13 to the Nothing Phone 1. Carl Pei teased the major Android upgrade for the phone just last week. The team has now opened registrations for the open beta testing. The announcement was made via the official Nothing Twitter account and a post on Nothing Community.
The official announcement says, "You may have heard that Android 13 is coming to Nothing OS, and we’d like to invite you, our community, to play a part in its development!" The team has plans to roll out the first open beta build sometime during mid-December i.e. two weeks from today. It has not mentioned how many slots are available for the beta test group but you can try your luck by submitting the application form. You will need to provide your device's IMEI number among other details.

The first beta build is said to have version number Nothing OS 1.5 which is the same as teased by Pei. The announcement does not reveal what changes we could expect to see with the first major upgrade for the Nothing Phone 1. We can surely expect to have all the major Android 13 features along with a few takes from Nothing itself for the custom Android skin.
