For the past couple of years, Chinese OEMs are busy offering the fastest possible wired charging speeds. They keep surprising everyone with a new release and when everyone thinks this is the fastest it can get, they take it to the next level. It was just a few months ago we saw Redmi Note 12 series with a whopping 210W fast charging but the recently-set record is set to be broken in the coming weeks.
The latest rumor coming from Digital Chat Station claims Realme GT Neo 5 will launch with an insane 240W wired fast charging speed. This is the same fast-charging technology that Oppo demoed earlier this year. It is said that tech will be exclusive to Realme smartphones for a while and eventually expand to Oppo and OnePlus devices. This is not surprising as all these brands operate under the same parent company BBK Electronics.
The Realme GT Neo 5 is rumored to arrive in two variants. The standard one will have a 5,000mAh battery with a relatively slower 150W fast sharing speed. It is the special edition that will come with a 4,600mAh battery supported by 240W fast charging. Oppo's demonstration showed 240W charging speed is capable of fully charging a 4,500mAh battery within just 9 minutes. This is undoubtedly an insanely fast charging time.
Oppo is yet to reveal other technical details about the 240W fast charging speed. The major issue of concern would be its impact on battery health. The company claimed battery health will drop to 80% of the original capacity after 1,600 charging cycles with the 150W fast charging. We can expect something similar effect with 240W speed but will have to wait for official numbers.
