MediaTek Dimensity 8200 5G chip brings flagship features to mid-range segment

08 December 2022 2

MediaTek has launched a new mid-range chipset named Dimensity 8200. It is a 5G processor that brings flagship features to the mid-range segment. It is based on the 4nm manufacturing process which is used by many flagship chipsets. This should result in faster and smoother performance by devices powered by the chipset.

The Dimensity 8200 features an ARM Cortex-A78 core clocked at 3.1GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 3.0GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. There is an ARM Mali-G610 MC6 GPU for handling graphics-intensive tasks. It further has HyperEngine 6.0 for enhanced gaming performance as compared to other chipsets in the same segment.

It has a fully integrated 5G modem featuring the latest 3GPP Release-16 standard technology and 3CC carrier aggregation to amplify sub-6GHz performance. Other connectivity technologies include WiFi 6E 2x2, Bluetooth 5.3, and WiFi/Bluetooth hybrid coexistence design. It is capable of supporting up to Full HD+ display with up to 180Hz refresh rate and up to WQHD+ display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. There is MediaTek's DisplaySync 2.0 compatibility and 4K AV1 video decoding support.

In the camera department, the team has opted for the flagship Imagiq 785 ISP. It is capable of supporting up to 320-megapixel photos and shooting 14-bit HDR videos on up to three cameras at the same time. It can also shoot 4K videos at 60 frames per second. MediaTek says we can expect to see devices powered by the Dimensity 8200 chip starting December-end. It did not mention OEM names that have partnered to be one of the first to release a phone.
