iPhone SE is a phone that has always attracted compact phone lovers and anyone who wants to get a new iPhone on a budget. The latest model in the series was released earlier this year and rumors of a successor were making rounds of the rumor mill for quite some time. But a new tip from Ming-Chi Kuo, a market research analyst, claims Apple is considering canceling or at least postponing 2024 iPhone SE 4 mass production.
Kuo speculates Apple's decision to cancel or postpone iPhone SE 4 production is due to consistently "lower-than-expected" shipments of models like iPhone SE 3, iPhone 13 mini, and iPhone 14 Plus. This is not surprising as there have been numerous reports talking about not-so-good demand for the aforementioned models.
The iPhone SE 4 was rumored to have a full-screen design similar to the iPhone XR. Kuo says this would have led to increases in manufacturing costs and eventually in selling prices. This is the reason Apple may be considering the positioning of the phone as well as the return on investment. Another reason is related to the global economic recession in 2023. The company is looking to avoid unnecessary new product development expenses ahead of the struggling season.
The next-gen iPhone SE is tipped to ditch the thick bezel design it has been offering ever since the first-ever model. It is claimed to have slim bezels and a 6.1-inch notched display same as the iPhone XR. It means it would also have Face ID biometric authentication instead of Touch ID.
