YouTube is finally ready with revenue-sharing modules for Shorts creators. It will start sharing revenue with eligible creators starting February 1st. The team announced a new and updated YouTube Partner Program contract that all creators will need to agree to if they want to earn revenue through their videos and Shorts.
The new contract essentially has traditional policies but there are three dedicated modules: Watch Page Monetization Module, Shorts Monetization Module, and Commerce Product Addendum. It is up to the creator which module(s) he/she wants to agree to but YouTube recommends agreeing to all three. This will allow them to unlock their full revenue-earning potential.
- Watch Page Monetization Module: Revenue through ads shown in long-form YouTube videos and YouTube Premium
- Shorts Monetization Module: Revenue through ads shown between Shorts and YouTube Premium
- Commerce Product Addendum: Revenue through memberships, Super Chats, etc.
All creators will need to agree to the new agreement by July 10th, 2023 to stay in the program. If they fail to do so, they will need to join the program by fulfilling the eligibility criteria once again. The eligibility for earning revenue from Shorts is to have a minimum of 1,000 subscribers and at least 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.
A creator will start earning revenue from Shorts from the day they will sign the agreement. It means let's say you do not sign it until Feb 25th, you will not earn anything from your Shorts watched during that period. Another thing to keep in mind is that YouTube will not pay you for non-original content. Such content includes unedited clips from movies or TV shows, re-uploaded content from other creators on YouTube or another platform, or compilations with no original content added. You will also not earn revenue for fake views like the ones generated through scroll bots or automated clicks.
