Apple is reportedly considering entering the smart display market with a bunch of new devices. Its first offering is said to be an iPad which will double up as a smart display. The report is coming from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman who has detailed initial plans of the Cupertino-based tech giant regarding this new product category.
The first smart display from Apple will essentially be a low-end iPad. It will have additional functionalities to support smart home products like thermostats and lights. It will be able to show videos and allow people to attend FaceTime chats from anywhere. It is said to work a lot similar to how Google's Nest Hub and Amazon's Echo Show do.
One difference could be the addition of magnetic fasteners for the portability aspect. This will allow the device to be mounted on a wall or anywhere else in the house. It is expected that we may see an advanced version of Siri available with the device. This version will have some extra hands-free functionalities to fulfill smart home needs.
The aforementioned device is said to be one of the many planned for the smart display lineup. It seems like Apple wants to gauge user response and feedback to decide what exactly needs to be done. It could release smart displays in different form factors and across different price points. We do not have information about a possible release timeline yet but we will keep you posted as more details will emerge.
