OnePlus is long rumored to be working on foldable smartphones. We first heard about it nearly a year ago and now, we have a fresh leak revealing the names of the devices. As per tipster Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings) and listings spotted at the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), there will be two foldables named OnePlus V Fold and OnePlus V Flip.
These spotted names give us a good idea of what to expect from these smartphones. The OnePlus V Fold will likely be a more premium and feature-rich foldable similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. As for the OnePlus V Flip, it will be a relatively affordable foldable with a flipping clamshell style like the Galaxy Z Flip. The two phones are aimed at different user bases depending on the budget.
Samsung has achieved great success with the two-design approach in the foldable segment. It has seen the flip version outsell the flagship foldable by a significant margin consistently. This is because most foldable lovers are unable to afford the more expensive Galaxy Z Fold smartphone. This is where the flip variant comes to the rescue and allows them to use a unique and innovative phone without breaking the bank.
OnePlus' foldable devices are said to be heavily inspired by its parent company Oppo's Find N series. It released Find N2 and Find N2 Flip just over a month ago. This is not surprising as we have seen the two companies share designs, software, and technologies with each other in the past. We still do not know when we will get to see OnePlus foldable but it should not take too long now.
