MediaTek has officially announced Dimensity 7200 as its newest mid-range processor. It is the first chipset under the Dimensity 7000 series that aims to bring superior features to the mid-range segment. Even though the chip brings a lot of features, its focus is on gaming performance and smartphone photography experience.
The Dimensity 7200 is developed using the same second-gen 4nm process that we saw on the flagship processor Dimensity 9200. It is an octa-core chip featuring dual ARM Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.8GHz and six Cortex-A510 cores clocked at an undisclosed frequency. It has ARM Mali G610 GPU and an AI Processing Unit (APU) that takes care of AI tasks and AI-fusion processing efficiency.
It has compatibility with Hyper Engine 5.0 gaming technology. It is touted to offer AI-based Variable Rate Shading (VRS) for power savings, CPU and GPU smart resource optimization for better battery life, and other upgrades for smooth gameplay. The chipset supports Imagiq 765 and has a 14-bit HDR-ISP for delivering improved camera performance. It can support up to 200-megapixel camera sensors and shoot 4K HDR videos.
There is a Release-16 standard Sub-6GHz 5G modem and no mmWave band support. It comes with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity support. Other noteworthy features include support for up to Full HD+ 144Hz displays, up to 6400Mbps memory frequency, UFS 3.1 storage standard, HDR10+, CUVA HDR, and Dolby HDR. MediaTek says we can expect Dimensity 7200 to make an appearance in 5G smartphones starting Q1 2023.
