Motorola Mobility and Bullitt Group have collaborated once again for the release of a new Android rugged smartphone. It is the Motorola Defy 2 which is a successor to the Defy from 2021. The unique thing about the new phone is its durability and two-way satellite communication support. It also happens to be one of the most affordable smartphones with satellite connectivity.
The Defy 2 is claimed to be robust enough to withstand drops and falls from heights up to 1.8 meters. It features IP68 and IP69K ratings for dust, sand, and waterproofing. It has also been tested extensively at high and low-temperature extremes to receive MIL-Spec 810H rating. The tests have also been conducted in humid environments and in salt mist conditions.
The smartphone sports a 6.6-inch Full HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Under the hood, it has the MediaTek Dimensity 930 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM. It has a single 128GB storage option along with microSD card support. The triple rear camera setup features a 50-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. The front camera on the phone is an 8-megapixel sensor.
The phone will ship with Android 12 out of the box and is guaranteed to receive two years of OS upgrades. There will also be security patch releases for up to five years. The Motorola Defy 2 is priced at $599 which includes 12 months of SOS assistance. It will launch in North America, Canada, and Latin America starting in Q2 2023.
