Sony has released a new PlayStation 5 software update packed with noteworthy changes. It brings features that will surely be appreciated by gamers. The biggest one is the official rollout for Discord integration. The team is also bringing variable refresh rate (VRR) support for 1440p resolution with the update.

The update is officially referred to as Version 7 for the PlayStation 5. The Discord support will allow PS5 gamers to join Discord voice chats directly from their consoles. A user will need to link his Discord and PlayStation accounts to get started. This can be done through the console, official websites, or smartphone/desktop apps. A Discord voice chat will need to start first on the smartphone or desktop and then transfer to the console.

VRR support has now been enabled for 1440p resolution with the update. It will work when you are gaming on a VRR-compatible HDMI 2.1 display on the aforementioned resolution. Sony has now made it possible to send a share screen request or start sharing your screen with a friend directly from the friend's profile. The team has added a new title that will show you the number of friends has the game, who is currently online, and who is currently playing the game. Users can now manually upload game capture to the PlayStation app.
