Apple is planning a major change to the HomePod smart speaker for the next year. Ming-Chi Kuo, a reliable tipster and market research analyst, has claimed we will see a HomePod with a 7-inch display in 2024. It will be the first time we will see a HomePod smart speaker launch with an in-built display which is not a surprising move.
Kuo says Apple has partnered exclusively with Tianma Microelectronics for procuring display panels. Tianma has production lines in China and supplies displays to various businesses. Its Android smartphone display manufacturing line is currently said to be running at full capacity. Moreover, its occupancy rate is said to be higher than that of its competitors.
The leak does not mention what would be the panel type for HomePod. The addition of a display is expected to result in a deeper integration of the HomePod with other Apple products. It will obviously be able to show more information as it will not have to rely on just speaking out loud every bit of information.
An older report claimed Apple is working on a HomePod with FaceTime and Apple TV support. It is unknown if the 7-inch display variant is the same one or if these are two different models. One thing is for sure Apple is committed to delivering more with HomePod and taking it beyond a speaker that can only speak. The latest HomePod model was launched earlier this year and it arrived with enhanced Siri, new sensors, and Matter support.
