OnePlus 6/6T to receive OxygenOS India-specific features via update

22 May 2019 2

During OnePlus 7 Pro's Indian launch, OnePlus announced that they are working on a few new India-specific OxygenOS features. It means these software features will be released exclusively for Indian users. These features are also set to arrive on OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T via a software update. While there is still some time before they get released, we finally have details about what exactly these features are.

The first feature is Caller Identification which is aimed at helping users identify unknown numbers before picking up the call. It is similar to how TrueCaller application works but it will be offered natively with the OnePlus dialer app. It will help users avoid spam calls from telemarketers which is quite a common thing in India. It will further allow users to tag numbers like Spam. Real Estate, and Courier.

In addition to calling, OnePlus wants to improve SMS experience for users as well. It will be done with the help of Smart SMS feature that will smartly format SMSes depending on their type to highlight important information. It means let's say you receive a movie ticket confirmation SMS, the feature will automatically format the message in a way that you can instantly check crucial details like movie name, show timings, seat details, and cinema venue. It will also categorize SMSes related to transactions and OTPs so that they don't get mixed with personal messages.

In the past year, we have seen tech companies focusing on the digital wellbeing aspect to help people lead a better life by not being on their phones all the time. OnePlus wants to do something similar too and that's why it will be releasing a feature called Work-Life Balance. As the name suggests, it will help users create a balance between their work and personal life. It means they will be able to set their working and non-working hours and classify apps on the same basis. They can choose to not receive notifications for particular apps during particular hours. The feature will also show insights about the amount of time spent on work as well as life apps.

For those who tend to travel abroad quite regularly, OnePlus Roaming feature will be made available. It is said to help those users in finding affordable international roaming plans without having to change the primary number or buying a local SIM card. Lastly, Shelf will start showing live cricket scores from ongoing big matches to help users stay updated. This feature has been released in partnership with ESPNCricinfo and seems like a timely addition for Cricket World Cup 2019.

All these features will be released via a software update in the coming weeks. It should be noted that above-mentioned names are not final yet and OnePlus might change their names by the time they become available.
