Android 10 disables USB port once it detects contamination or overheating

05 September 2019 0

Android 10 brings along some changes as well apart from those already-told or visible features. Some features can only be seen once you get to experience the update on your devices. Some keenly-eyed people are already digging in and carving out some hidden features which weren’t uttered before.

Now as found by the folks over at XDA Developers, Android 10 will notify users when their phone’s USB port is contaminated or overheating. It will even automatically disable the port until better conditions are detected. Also, the port will automatically unlock once the system analyzes it to be safe.

Once the system disables the USB port, it will pop a message on the screen mentioning why the use of the USB port has been disabled for a while. The functionality mentions that the system will lock down the port to prevent debris or liquid entering any accessories. Samsung devices have this functionality for a long time and now it’s good to see that the same support is landing to other Android devices.

Another interesting feature is, Android will now warn users that their USB Type-C port is overheating and start an alarm dialog to the user informing them to unplug the charger and to “take care as the cable may be warm.” The dialog will not stop until the user presses the okay button or the button to show “care steps” to reduce the temperature.

It’s best suited when we use some third-party or even cheaper peripherals to get our phone charged. It’s like if you’re not taking care of your device, well Android will and save it from getting damaged. There have been several cases when a device burst into flames due to overheating but now Android will take care of it and warn you about the same. This feature which is already coming too late could now prove as a boon if it warns users correctly.

In related news, another good rummage of the Android 10 has revealed Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL now support DSDS.
