MediaTek Helio P40 chip is expected to be launched next year and will help the company gain market share due to its cheap price. The Helio P40 Chip is expected to be priced between $11- $12 and will compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 Lite chip which costs about $15.
Due to the less price of the Mediatek Helio P40, the company is likely to grab a bigger market share. The company could increase its market share from 15% this year to 25% next year. The P40 is expected to be built on TSMC's 12nm architecture, which makes it one of the most power-efficient chipsets on the market. MediaTek’s Helio P40 will have octa-cores and will come with support for 4G networks.
Latest reports suggest that the Helio P40 chipset would comprise of two ARM A73 cores and four ARM Cortex A53 cores, which will reportedly result in 40% better power and 30% more energy efficiency than the previous Helio P30 chip. However this has not been confirmed by Mediatek as yet, so we ask readers to take the news with a pinch of salt.
Priced at $11-$12 it will be one of the most economical mid-range chip as well. The company has stated that MediaTek says OPPO, Meizu, and Xiaomi have signed up for its upcoming Helio P40.
Meanwhile, Qualcomm is also working on the successor to the Snapdragon 660 Lite SoC, called the Snapdragon 670 SoC and will be based on 10nm process.
