How to check if your Android device getting updated against Meltdown

11 January 2018 4

Meltdown and Spectre are the two new threats that have disturbed the tech world as pretty much everyone is affected by it. Last week, these two new security research findings gave an alarm to just everyone. The vulnerability, Meltdown affected every modern Intel chip, whereas the other two variants collectively known as ‘Spectre’ are known to affect the chips from Intel, AMD, and ARM.

Several companies have released patches in order to fix these vulnerabilities to some extent. Intel has also addressed that it will fix the issue which is widespread by the end of this month. While the companies are making efforts to eradicate these issues completely, you can protect yourself from the possible threats with some prevention. If the statement from Intel that it addressed during the CES keynote is to be believed then no serious threat has been recorded yet. But, still, the issues have their massive effect and can bruise your systems and hence the data.

Google has already patched its several products and it also recently released a table in which it has listed the status of every Chromebook to let the customers know if their Chome OS-based laptop is receiving the patch against the Meltdown vulnerability.

Well, the user base of Android is massive in comparison to Windows, so it’s obvious to take the headache of the Android devices first when such issues arrive.

For Android devices, Google advised the January Security patch that includes mitigations. Google had also said that it issued patches to its Android partners. Many older Android phones and tablets won’t be updated so that’s another matter.

Italian trade-in company riCompro has reportedly checked the support documents from leading Android brands to know which devices are receiving an update to mitigate against the vulnerabilities.

You can view the spreadsheet provided below and know if your device is getting the update. The site also conducts a test with the help of which you can know if the patch is coming from your device. The verification only includes the phones from Huawei, Samsung, Apple, Honor, Motorola, LG, and HTC.

"The verification only includes the phones from Huawei, Samsung, Apple, Honor, Motorola, LG, and HTC". This is what I want to ask about. What if my brand isn't listed there?
