29 January 2018 5

Search by image facility isn’t yet available on the mobile phones like the ease you find on the desktops. However, a workaround may let you do a reverse image search effortlessly from your mobile browser.

The need of image search appears when you want to verify it or its origin like who actually published it or who's the owner of the same.

For instance, you've received an image on your mobile and you want to check the source or authenticity of the same. Then, reverse image search comes into play. Well, you must have been doing the same by transferring the image to your laptop and then searching it through the Google search engine. But, this is time-consuming and doesn't seem the best way to search the web by the image. So, I'm posting a workaround here and a good solution that will help you to know about the image. So, let's dig in.

How to do search by image on smartphone

Well, there is a quick way to search by an image on your mobile phone without having to take the help of your desktop.

Many of you, must be aware of the first method and this is by requesting the desktop site while you’re accessing it through a mobile browser.

Just open the Google.com on your mobile browser (I’m here referring the Chrome browser on my Android phone) and select the Images option. Or, you can simply write “images.gooogle.com” in the URL to start uploading the image directly.

Now, click on the three vertically-aligned dots to access the menu. Now select the “Desktop Site.” This will show you the same search bar as you see on your desktop while searching by an image. Upload an image just as do on your laptop and know its origin or find similar images.

The second method is actually a free service developed by Amit Agarwal, a web developer and founder of labnol.org. The service is actually a web version and lets you search by an image or what we call reverse image search.

The name of this service or tool is "Reverse Photos" that helps you quickly discover visually similar images from around the web. So, just simply go to reverse.photos and perform the reverse image searches on mobile phones.

After visiting this online tool, click the “Upload Image” button and choose an image the Gallery of your mobile phone. Next click “Show Matching Images” and it will show you visually similar photos by feeding your photo into Google’s image database.

You can also take a new picture from your phone’s camera or upload existing images from your cloud storage services like iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.

Use Reverse Photos online tool.

So, these were the two methods with the help of which you can perform reverse image search from your smartphone or search the web by an image from your mobile phone easily.
