AMD 7nm Vega 20 GPU benchmark score leaked

30 April 2018 2

The fact that AMD has been working on its 7nm Vega 20 GPUs is a truth which is accepted. However, we really didn’t believe that it would be close to being ready. It seems like AMD might be gearing up for a GPU launch fairly soon. Vega 20 has been spotted through a recorded entry in a popular GPU benchmark known as 3D Mark. How does it perform? Pretty amazing and once you find out how it compares to the company’s last highest-end GPU, the performance will surely blow your mind.

The 3D Mark benchmark was run using the Performance preset and it’s clear that the engineering sample of the Vega 20 GPU is ahead of the Vega 64 by quite a substantial margin. What’s interesting to notice is that it has 32GB of HBM2 vRAM which is clocked at an insanely high frequency of 1.25GHz. The clock speed of the new GPU showing as 1GHz yields better performance than its predecessor which is clocked at 1.75GHz. What we can’t confirm is if the new GPU has some sort of boost which enables it to automatically clock upwards of 1GHz which the software failed to pick up.

If history is to be believed, then engineering samples are usually tested at a clock speed lower than that of what they are actually capable of. There’s a good chance that the Vega 20 GPU will end up running at 1.2GHz out of the box. This GPU shows a remarkable improvement of 70% over its predecessor in terms of performance per clock. This should be taken with a grain of salt as none of the information can be confirmed or validated. However, if this is true, then AMD’s GPU could possibly be the beast leading the pack!
