08 May 2018 2

Google has announced new improvements to Google Maps, at the ongoing Google I/O event. The company announced that Google will soon get new Street View features, as well as AR-based features for visually richer navigation.

The new version of Google Maps which show popular events in your area. It will come with a new “For You” section, which will feature new and trending events in your area. A new “Your Match” feature will deliver personalised recommendations to Google Maps users.

Google Maps is being used by over 1 billion people to navigate and get directions while driving. At the Google I/O conference, the internet giant announced new features that will make maps less reliant on visuals for communication. While going on a route, Maps will now be able to read your text messages, for a more hands-off experience.

Google has also launched a new "share my ETA" feature which estimates your arrival time, and then sends it as a message.

The new updates to Google Maps will be rolled out this summer. The announcement and updates come after Google’s last week's announcement about Google Maps Platform, a streamlined collection of APIs for third-party app developers.
