Xiaomi confirmed recently that an event will be held in Shenzhen, however, the launch date isn’t disclosed yet. It’s speculated that the company may launch the much-rumored Mi 7 which could rather be Mi 8, Xiaomi’s 8th-Anniversary edition. However, a few rumors state that Xiaomi will rather launch two new phones – Mi 7 and something that could be a remembrance of the company’s 8th-Anniversary.
Well, not commenting on the launch further, we now have a leaked photo of the structured 3D light module. The image is surfaced on Weibo and it’s speculated to be the image of the TrueDepth Camera and Face ID system which was also present on the iPhone X notch. A tipster from China claims that Xiaomi’s 8th-anniversary edition phone could bear this 3D facial recognition system.
Previously surfaced reports stated that the 3D facial recognition solution that will be used by Xiaomi is jointly developed by Qualcomm, Himax Technologies and Truly Opto-electronics. It was also speculated that Xiaomi is dealing with some difficulties while employing the 3D facial tech on its upcoming flagship. And, this could cause a delay in the launch.
Later on, many pictures of the alleged flagship of Xiaomi appeared online that showed the display notch as large as we see in iPhone X. This compelled us to believe that the company’s upcoming flagship will definitely include the 3D facial tech. Android smartphones have been employing the display notch, but, no such smartphone has included a large notch as we speculate on Xiaomi Mi 7 or Mi 8. Comparing it with the arrangement present on iPhone X, the structured light 3D module of the iPhone X includes a TrueDepth Camera that captures the face data accurate by analyzing more than 30,000 invisible dots to make a depth map on the face of the user.
Now, the same tech is expected from Xiaomi’s upcoming phone as well. Also, recently, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun hinted that the Mi 7 will be coming with an under-display fingerprint scanner, so it may not feature 3D scanning tech. We guess that only the 8th-Anniversary Edition will include the 3D facial tech, but this is just a wild guess. Wait for more such rumors to come your way.
