Apple teases 70 new emoji on World Emoji Day

Apple Inc has started unveiling some of the new 70 emoji on World Emoji Day which will come to iOS later this year. One of the coolest new Emoji’s will include a selection of new emoji hairstyles, that will have grey hair, curly hair, options for redheads, and bald heads too! The redheaded emoji has been one of the most wanted ones from thousands of people.

Apple is also introducing new food emoji for lettuce and mangoes. The company will also add a cupcake or mooncake emoji. The new emojis are in line with Unicode 11.0, that included 66 new emoji’s which were approved in June, including a cold face, a bagel, and superheroes.

The new batch of emoji hopes to increase inclusion and representation, especially for various Asian cultures. For e.g. the Nazar Amulet and mango is a favourite of many Southeast Asians. These two symbols are important parts of their cultures. The Amulet is believed to bring a symbol of good luck to ward off the evil eye, and mangoes are relevant to those from Southeast Asia.

Apple says in a blog post, More than 70 new emoji characters are coming to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac later this year in a free software update. The new emoji designs, created based on approved characters in Unicode 11.0, include even more hair options to better represent people with red hair, gray hair and curly hair, a new emoji for bald people, and new smiley faces that bring more expression to Messages with a cold face, party face, pleading face and a face with hearts.

Apple's World Emoji Day teaser hints at a number of new illustrations to come. "Many additional characters across sports, symbols and more, will launch later this year, including a new superhero emoji, a softball, nazar amulet and infinity symbol," says Apple.
