As all the smartphone manufacturers race towards developing the world’s first 5G-powered smartphone, we’re seeing Chinse smartphone manufacturers racing towards the winning line, much quicker than the pre-established big names like Samsung and Apple.
Huawei expected to release their first 5G powered smartphone in early 2019 and other companies like OnePlus confirmed that their 5G enabled phone would be unveiled next year. We have been hearing about 5G phones since 2-3 years now and the arena got a bit clear when Qualcomm announced world’s first 5G enabled smartphone chip and then partnered with a lot of OEMs to develop 5G powered smartphones by 2019. Now the only question is, who would be the first one to launch a 5G powered smartphone, while it’s quite obvious and a matter of time when the entire smartphone market would be flooded with 5G powered phones in the upcoming year.
In the latest development in this regard, Oppo has completed a successful test on its modified retail unit of Oppo R15, where the company achieved the 5G network speeds. Talking about some of the technicalities of the test, it was based upon 3GPP Release 15 NSA standard working on a 10MHz bandwidth of 4G LTE Band 5 and the 20 MHz bandwidth of 5G NR n78 band.
The President of Oppo Research Institute Liu Chang shared that this test laid the foundation for the commercial launch of the 5G-enabled smartphones that would probably arrive in 2019. Are you excited for the 5G speeds? Let us know in the comment section below.
