OnePlus sets goal of Jan 15, 2019, could be a new 5G flagship device?

OnePlus has announced a new goal of Jan 15, 2019, though it has not stated what is the goal for? It could be the launch of its new 5G enabled flagship device, according to rumours. OnePlus and Oppo have the same parent company called BBK Electronics, and share the same resources. This is one of the reasons that both the companies have launched similar devices in the past.

OnePlus 6 resembles the OPPO R15 in terms of design, and even the Dash Charge fast charging technology which is available on OnePlus phones is a version of VOOC rapid charging used by OPPO.

Last week, OPPO’s assistant VP had stated that his company could become the first manufacturer to mass produce a 5G smartphone in 2019. An image of a modified OPPO R15 with Snapdragon X50 LTE modem with 5G connectivity support has also surfaced on social media site Weibo, which hints that the company is on the path to launch a 5G device. This could mean that OnePlus could also launch its 5G smartphone in the coming year, as they both use the same technology and resources. A report released earlier this year had stated that the OnePlus 7 could be one of the first smartphones to support 5G connectivity.

OnePlus usually launches its phones in Q2, every year. However, the goal that has been set for Jan. 15, 2019 which is intriguing. The company is also gearing up to launch the OnePlus 6T later this year. So, maybe the company is working on a 5G edition of OnePlus 6T which could be unveiled in the beginning of 2019? It is also possible, that the company could just be planning a demonstration of 5G connectivity. We will just have to wait and watch to find out what’s in store for us on Jan 15, 2019.
