Samsung to bring more value for money devices this year

04 September 2018 2

Samsung is planning to overhaul the strategy for its mid-segment smartphones in the wake of competition and to attract new age consumers. Samsung’s Mobile chief DJ Koh has admitted that the Galaxy A line will see an overhaul amid a major slowdown in the mobile market for the company.

Samsung is known to introduce the latest technology to its flagship smartphones and later bring it to the mid-tier and cheaper phones.

Mr. Koh accepted "In the past, I brought the new technology and differentiation to the flagship model and then moved to the mid-end. But I have changed my strategy from this year to bring technology and differentiation points starting from the mid-end,"

The company is feeling the heat from Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO, VIVO, OnePlus, etc. These brands have captured a major chunk of market share, where Samsung used to dominate earlier, by offering high-specced devices at very thin margins.

In terms of sales, Samsung is seeing a 20-percent fall in the year-on-year in the second quarter of 2018. Unexpectedly low sales of its flagship models Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus has also been one of the major contributors to this.

Now, Samsung is planning to launch a device with cutting-edge features later this year to regain its market share in growing economies like India and other South-east Asian countries. These mid-priced devices would see a few iterations within a year itself.

In a related news, a popular leakster IceUniverse tweeted that Samsung may lunch a phone with Quad-camera setup this year. Though he has not revealed if the phone will have dual-camera at the back and front or triple rear camera setup with one selfie camera. He has further stated that this phone will not be a flagship-grade phone.

Since this leak is in line with Samsung Mobile Chief DJ Koh's announcement who is looking to woo millennials by offering innovative products at affordable price.

So in all probability, this rumored quad camera device could be the next Galaxy A series smartphone. Do you think this revamp will help Samsung get the desired numbers again? Do let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

My personal opinion is that Samsung should drop the speed at which they release the devices. Guess, that's the value for money. They can deliver better support.
