Sadly, OnePlus is also joining the league of brands which have ditched away with the 3.5mm audio jack. OnePlus’s Co-Founder Carl Pei has confirmed that the “next OnePlus device” will omit the audio jack which has been one of the highlight features till now.
OnePlus in past has trolled Apple for removing the headphone jack. In fact, Carl Pei had run a poll on Twitter before the launch of OnePlus 6 which confirmed that almost 90% of users still prefer the analog headphone jack.
Headphone jack demand stable YoY as per my Twitter followers. You'd expect it to decrease, no? pic.twitter.com/Qe9Q3cGznP— Carl Pei (@getpeid) March 15, 2018
Carl Pei also mentioned to TechRadar, that they had decided to remove the headphone jack almost two years back, however since the adoption of wireless headphones was less, hence decided to delay it. The company which is said to work a lot on the community feedback, says that 59% of its users now have wireless earphones. Pei further claimed that the Bullets Wireless headphones launched with OnePlus 6, was received very well.
He has also confirmed that the next OnePlus device will have an improved battery life however he did not mention if it means “bigger battery”. Though he stated that it will be “substantial enough for users to realize”.
Carl Pei stated that removal of the audio jack has enabled them to free up some space which will help them bring in new technology. Though he did not clearly specify what he meant by the “new technology” but however we already know that the OnePlus 6T will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
OnePlus will include a Type-C to 3.5mm adapter in the retail box of OnePlus 6T. In a related news, OnePlus has also announced USB C version of Bullets which will be sold separately priced at INR 1490 in India. OnePlus is preparing its users for the decision early so that it doesn’t create extreme feedback during the launch however it is really sad to see more and more brands ditching the audio jack.
